THE PUBLICATION

An independent election desk.

What PolityIQ covers, how we work and the standards behind our election maps and polling data.

Built for the curious voter.

PolityIQ brings polling, electoral geography, candidates and results into one place. Start with a national picture, find your community, then follow the source behind the number.

Our desks cover Canadian federal polling, Ontario municipal races, British Columbia, the United States and Brazil. The depth of coverage varies by election and by the data available.

The number should have a paper trail.

We link to original pollster releases and election authorities wherever available. Each desk explains its own sources, dates and limitations. Party colours, portraits and logos help identify people and parties; they do not imply an endorsement.

We do not run an election, certify a result or speak for an election authority, polling firm or political party.

Four different kinds of information.

  • Polls: surveys of a defined group at a particular time.
  • Projections: modelled scenarios, separate from counted votes.
  • Results: source-reported counts, which may be preliminary and subject to correction.
  • Rehearsal: clearly labelled simulated counts used to explore the election-night interface.

Accountability is part of the design.

Missing data should look missing. A responding server is not proof of live votes, a leader is not automatically a winner, and a historical snapshot is not today’s news.
